Meet Andrea Garcia | Esthetician & Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?

I’m from a Venezuelan island in the Caribbean called Margarita. As an immigrant living in a new country, I realized that going out of my comfort zone motivated me to explore different things that maybe I didn’t knowI was passionate about. I always knew I was a people person but never knew how to use it to help me grow professionally.

Miami has allowed me to expand my knowledge and skills while at the same time meeting people that have become loyal clients and friends and have shaped me both professionally and personally.

Today, I’m thankful of having over 500 clients that trust me and the business I work in and teach me new things everyday, making me want to be a even better educator and esthetician.

My family taught me that anything I do in life I should do it with passion and encourage me to give my best everyday. With that mindset you can’t go wrong and I try to give that advice to anyone I know.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Like it happens to a lot of people, I went to college for one thing and after I graduated I realized it wasn’t what I wanted to do for living. After 5 years in school I got my diploma in marketing and advertising and all of the sudden I was in another country searching for something I felt passionate about and that I wanted to make a living out of.

It took me 3 Years to realize I wanted to be an esthetician. The road wasn’t easy, going back to school and working at the same time to save money was hard but not impossible, I encouraged myself with one mantra “if you do good things in life, good things will happen to you” And this payed off the day I found Habits Skin Lab. I felt like I finally belong to a place and that it not only was going to be my place of work but my home.

I’ve learned along the way you have to work hard for you dreams, that there’s going to be bad days but also AMAZING days and that you never should stop dreaming but always find a way to keep your feet on the ground.

When I started I only had my esthetician license and a few clients. Today, I find myself with a long list of clients as well as young estheticians eager to learn from me. This is the most rewarding part of my job, being able to change poeple’s life by giving them something more than just a treatment or a class, by giving them the ultimate experience of self-care.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I don’t know if I’m the best person to answer this cause i stay at home a lot! But I would say Lagniappe is always a good idea to have a glass of wine and hang-out with friends.

Also, I discover a hidden gem not so long ago to eat delicious and authentic Italian food. It’s called Osteria and their food is to die for. ( their vongole pasta and tiramisu are a must)

If you want to enjoy a good romantic sunset with a loved one, your friend or even your dog, The Clit in Key Biscayne is the right place to go.

And last but not least, Habits Skin Lab is the place to go for a self-care day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

There’s so many people I know that deserves a shoutout but my top pick would be Katty Chavez! She’s been one of my most loyal clients and I’m so lucky I can call her my friend. She’s a boss lady and a successful example of the “hard work pays off” phrase. She runs her own business with her mom, a restaurant called El Atlakat (de la 40) which I would say is one of my favorite spots to eat in Miami.
